What is IVM?
IVM is a newer fertility treatment offered as an alternative to conventional IVF where the women receives ovary-stimulating medications after which the eggs are removed and only the mature eggs are subjected to IVF. While in an IVM cycle immature eggs are collected and matured in the laboratory and then subjected to IVF.
Who are offered this Treatment?
This procedure is offered to patients with PCOS/PCOD so as to avoid excessive hormonal stimulation and OHSS. It has also been found useful in cases with abnormally high response to gonadotrophin stimulation or patients with poor response. It is also being offered as a part of fertility preservation, in oocyte donation program and PGS (Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening) program.
What are the advantages of IVM?
This procedure requires fewer medications and hence is cost effective with fewer medication side effects. It is convenient and less stressful as few visits to the hospitals are required.
